Romania, 11th out of 42 participating countries

The spring session of the international wine competition MUNDUS VINI Grand International Wine Award, held last week in Germany, brought Romanian wines a total of 71 medals, including 46 gold and 25 silver. Romanian producers submitted 183 wine labels into the competition. These accolades placed Romania 11th out of a total of 42 participating countries.

Among the 16 awarded Romanian wineries are Jidvei , with 6 gold medals and 5 silver, Crama GIrboiu, with 9 gold medals and one silver, Cramele Recas, with 3 gold medals and 7 silver, Vintruvian Estates with 5 gold medals, and SERVE, with 3 gold medals.

In total, at this tasting session, 7,430 samples were entered, and 2,974 wines were awarded, of which 1,727 received gold medals.

At the prestigious competition, international wine expert Marinela Ardelean served as chair of committee, marking her fifth consecutive year in this role, out of the 10 years she has been part of the competition jury.

"These medals are a reason for joy for our entire industry, and I am glad that the awarded producers will have an additional argument in promoting their wines at future professional fairs such as Prowein, Vinitaly, or RO-Wine. I hope that, at the summer session of MUNDUS VINI, we will have even more Romanian wines, especially since some producers, although they did not enter many wines in the competition, received only gold medals. After the two sessions of the competition, it is clear that we will surpass the total number of medals from 2023 when we had a commendable performance, but one that kept us on par with Austria, South Africa, and the Czech Republic, still far from Georgia, France, or Portugal," said Marinela Ardelean, founder of the platform Wines of Romania.
