Bucharest, December 1: Carrefour Romania celebrates Romania’s National Day with a premiere within the "Deschidem Vinul Romanesc" (We Open the Romanian Wine / DVR) program: together with WizzAir, it organized the first Romanian wine tasting in the air, on the Venice Treviso-Bucharest route, for all Romanians returning home and tourists visiting our country on our national day. Additionally, in partnership with Henri Coanda International Airport, Romanians and tourists were welcomed today at the arrivals area in Bucharest with a unique range of Romanian wines.

"Today, we celebrated National Day, Romanians, and Romanian wine at a high altitude, alongside 200 other Romanians and tourists who enjoyed wines from native varieties available in the Carrefour’s DVR program. Romanian wines can be a source of pride for every Romanian and for our country, so my mission as the Ambassador of the DVR program is to promote it on every occasion," said Marinela Ardelean, Ambassador of the Deschidem Vinul Romanesc program and an international wine expert.

"We gladly joined Carrefour’s invitation to surprise the passengers of the Venice Treviso – Bucharest flight on December 1st with a unique experience and Romanian wine, made from native varieties – a wine tasting in the air, supported by Marinela Ardelean. We remain loyal to the Romanian market and continue to offer our customers the best low-cost travel options to and from Romania on board our modern and sustainable aircraft," said Valeria Bragarenco, Corporate Communications Manager at Wizz Air.

"When you open a Romanian wine, it’s impossible not to be proud that you are Romanian. We want this feeling to embrace every customer who chooses to put a Romanian wine on the table on December 1st and any other day, and we are proud that Carrefour’s, Deschidem Vinul Romanesc, brings a new premiere in Romania," stated Narcis Horhoianu, Chief Marketing Officer at Carrefour Romania.

Deschidem Vinul Romanesc, the unique program initiated by Carrefour Romania, continues its mission to promote Romanian wine, especially on Romania’s National Day, and opens the festive season with local wine and sparkling wine. Over 200 passengers arriving today in the country from Venice Treviso raised a glass of wine in honor of the country during the flight, before reaching their native lands, discovering the story of Romanian wine alongside Marinela Ardelean, the program’s Ambassador. Additionally, other celebrities served those on board with local varieties, celebrating this important day at a high altitude. Once at Henri Coanda International Airport, Romanians and tourists were greeted in the arrivals area by a sommelier who invited them to discover the authentic taste of Romanian vineyards and celebrate National Day together.People couldn’t contain their emotions, pleasantly surprised by these moments and visibly overwhelmed with joy that they had returned home and could raise a glass with their loved ones.

Deschidem Vinul Romanesc has made a tradition of promoting Romanian wines, especially on National Day. In 2021, it organized a wine tasting for the first time in the renowned Times Square, and in 2022, the business community and distributors in Italy could taste the best Romanian wines at the Embassy of Romania in Rome. This year, the program joins the Romanian Embassies in Rome and in Paris to celebrate both National Day and the fact that 2023 is a record year for Romania, ranking 4th in the world for wine production growth.

Since its debut in 2019, over 200 exclusive labels have been created within the program by reputable wineries, some of which have been awarded at international wine competitions such as the International Wine Challenge or Decanter World Wine Awards. The program is available in Carrefour stores nationwide and online at www.deschidemvinulromanesc.ro.

About Deschidem Vinul Romanesc

Deschidem Vinul Romanesc / We Open the Romanian Wine, or DVR, is a long-term national program developed by Carrefour Romania with the mission to support the Romanian wine industry and place Romania on the international wine map. The program’s wine experts travel across the country, visiting wineries ranging from well-known brands to small businesses run by local producers’ families, in search of new wines to promote nationally. After tasting and selecting the wines, program consultants support winemakers in their branding, promotion, and distribution efforts to successfully enter the modern retail market.

Since its debut in 2019, over 200 labels have joined the program—some new to retail, some exclusively sold in Carrefour nationwide, and some awarded at international wine competitions such as the International Wine Contest Bucharest, Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, International Wine Challenge, or Decanter World Wine Awards.
