The tenth edition of the Rose Wine Competition was organized last weekend by the Winelover Romania Association in Bucharest, at the Caro Hotel. Every year since 2013, this competition has invariably taken place on 14 May. The judging was done "in blind", the jury being composed of wine specialists and connoisseurs: members of the Association of Authorized Tasters of Romania (A.D.A.R.), graduates of the Wine and Spirits Education Trust (W.S.E.T.), wine merchants and consultants (specialized shops, online activities, restaurant managers), renowned sommeliers, wine communicators (journalists, wine critics and bloggers) and foreign guests – wine testing authorities from Poland, France and Bulgaria.

As in previous editions, the competition was made up of 21 events. The organizers select them following, each time, a few criteria: the wines must be dry rosés, from the previous year’s harvest and with shelf prices between 20-70 lei. Then, the wines entered in the competition are divided into two sections: five in the AROMATIC section and 16 in the UNAROMATIC section.
For this edition, the selection was made after five pre-selection sessions, in which 87 wines were tasted.

The winning roses at the 10th edition of the competition were:

  • CAII DE LA LETEA – GENEZA/harvest 2021 – VIA VITICOLA SARICA NICULIȚEL, in the category UNAROMATIC WINES;
  • STRUNGA – BOHOTIN BEER/harvest 2021 – CRAMA STRUNGA, in the category AROMATIC WINES.

In the category of UNAROMATIC WINES, the podium of awarded wines was completed by Cuvee Sissi, from SERVE Winery and Sur Mer, from Rasova Winery.

The first-placed wines in the two sections were awarded prizes by the organisers and sponsors.

"The whole action is part of a program to encourage and promote the consumption of quality wine, giving a signal and trying to form a trend on quality wines worth drinking in the summer and autumn of 2022. Statistics have shown that, since 2012, rose wine has seen consumption increases of up to 30% from one year to the next", said Razvan Stoenescu, initiator of this competition and ambassador of the #winelover community in Romania.

Carrefour Romania, Parmafood, Media Sat, Romanian Drink Service, Aqua Carpatica were among the partners that supported the organization of this contest.
