Concha Andreu, President of the Government of La Rioja, is an oenologist by profession
The seventh edition of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) World Wine Tourism Conference will take place in 2023 in La Rioja, an autonomous community and province in northern Spain, with its capital in Logrono.
This new edition was announced on Tuesday 12 July at the Vivanco Wine Culture Museum. The event was attended by Concha Andreu, President of the Government of La Rioja; Reyes Maroto, Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism, together with the Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization, Zurab Pololikashvili.
The conference – which was organised for the first time in November 2014 in San Marino – has become an important international forum on trends, tools and opportunities to promote wine tourism. The summit provides an opportunity for experts and professionals to exchange knowledge and experience.
President Concha Andreu – an oenologist by profession – stressed that the choice of La Rioja as the venue for the conference is implicitly a recognition of the region’s tourism development: "La Rioja possesses a unique and diverse heritage, both tangible and intangible, related to wine as a food and as a product and, in turn, this heritage constitutes a top tourist offer that can and should be further improved."
The 2022 edition of the UNWTO World Conference on Wine Tourism will take place in Alba, Italy, from 19-21 September.
