Bringing home 10 GOLD medals and 8 Silver medals, Romania had a very good participation with its wines in Mundus Vini 2022, the most important profile competition of the summer in Germany.
Successful participation for Romanian wines
At the 31-th edition, 2022, of the most important wine competition in Germany, MUNDUS VINI, 130 expert jurors tasted wines from 33 wine-producing countries registered in order to win the ‘Grand International Wine Award’. A lot of wines were entered, but the Grand Gold Medal was awarded to only 23 wines. 980 wines won gold medals and 671 silver medals. Italy, Spain and Germany qualified for the first three places in terms of the number of medals received.
The top partners of Wines of Romania participated in this prestigious international competition: Jidvei, Crama SERVE – Ceptura, Gramofon Wine, Domeniile Averesti Domains, Via Viticola (Caii de la Letea and Domeniile Prince Matei).
This competition has strict rules, so that only 40% of the registered samples can be awarded, even if the medal contenders exceed this percentage. If more than 40% of wines qualify for medals, the minimum threshold of each category is increased (95+ Great Gold Medal, 90+ Gold Medal and 85+ Silver Medal). In this way, only the most valuable and outstanding wines are awarded, respecting the 40% rule.

Romania at MUNDUS VINI 2022 – more than a simple wine competitor
Wines of Romania brought a part of the Romanian spirit to this important event where the wines spoke separately about each country.
Marinela Ardelean, the soul and voice of Wines of Romania, held a masterclass with a lot of news about Romania as wine producer and was the honorary host of a dynamic and touching tasting with the wines of the partners of this private project started in April 2022.
Remarkable and funny at the same time was the effort of the guests to correctly pronounce the names of the Romanian wine grape varieties they tasted. It is a remarkable thing, because there are many international publications that insist on translating the names of Romanian autochthonous wine grape varieties, although the OIV catalog includes both the synonyms allowed for Romania and those allowed in other countries.
Personalities from the Wine World wanted to publicly express their opinions regarding the Romanian wines tasted in this prestigious international competition. Frank Apfel called the "extraordinary wines selection of these 6 Wines of Romania partner producers"
Before the tasting offered by Wines of Romania and its partners, the director of the competition, Christian Wolf, declared: “Romanian wines have shown over the last years at MUNDUS VINI, that there is an increase in the quality. For me it is very interesting to see this increase and also the diversity of wine philosophies. With this years wine presentation by Wines of Romania our wine experts from all over the world now have the chance to taste those wines not blindly served in the tasting, but with all knowledge about the wines, the idea and the personal interaction with the representatives. From the MUNDUS VINI tasting most of them already know the high quality of Romanian wines, but of course the tasting there was blind, so they didn’t know the exact wine or the winery. I am very much looking forward to this fantastic evening and the chance for both the wineries to present their great wines, but also our wine experts to get more deep insights and experience with Wine of Romania.”
With an extraordinary team, Romania created a beautiful image. "We need promotion and export, we need correct positioning and visibility. And this takes time, resources and trust! […] I have always wished to see our wines in Romania’s dedicated evening, here, at the most important wine competition in Germany. And we did it!" said Marinela Ardelean, after the successful conclusion of the Romanian event within MUNDUS VINI 2022.
