The summer edition of Mundus Vini, held at the end of August, announced its winners last night. Romania won 43 medals, including 26 gold, slightly behind Georgia (46 medals) and Australia (45 medals), but far ahead of the next contender, Moldova, with 23 medals.
A leading position for the group of Eastern European countries, comparable to the performance of wines from the New World (USA, Chile, South Africa, New Zealand, Argentina, Mexico, and Uruguay), but far from the classic producers, where Italy counted 465 medals, Spain – 278, and Germany – 192. With the results achieved, including 6 gold medals and one silver, Cramele Recas entered the top of the best producers, while Domeniile Alexandrion Rhein 1892 won a Grand Gold Medal for their white blend DAR 1892.
Most Awarded Romanian Wine Producers
Mundus Vini awarded a total of 1,600 wines at this edition. From Romania, Banul Craiovei winery continued its remarkable progress (4 gold medals), having already garnered several outstanding medals at competitions over the past year. Alongside the already mentioned wineries, other standout performances came from Liliac (4 gold and 2 silver medals), Crama Girboiu (2 gold, 4 silver), Murfatlar Vinul Romania (3 gold, 1 silver), Crama Oprisor (2 gold, 1 silver), and HB Wine (1 gold, 2 silver).

Eastern Europe: The Rising Star
The Meininger press release following the Mundus Vini Summer Tasting 2004 edition shows that Eastern European wines continue their upward trajectory, gaining increasing recognition.
Up-and-coming: Eastern Europe
Eastern European countries are still one of the rising stars, earning a total of 175 awards consisting of 5 Grand Gold, 108 Gold and 62 Silver medals. The list is led by Georgia with 46 awards, followed by Romania with 43 award, Moldova (23), Czech Republic (16) and Bulgaria (13) as well as the Republic of North Macedonia and Croatia (9 awards each), Armenia (8), Hungary (5) and Bosnia and Herzegovina (3 awards).
Wines from the New World
The so-called New World wines are summing up to 168 awards in the Summer Tasting 2024 (4 Grand Gold, 119 Gold and 45 Silver). South Africa presents itself strongest in the list with 53 awards, closely followed by Australia with 45 awards. The list is completed by the United States of America (21), Chile (18 awards), Argentina (12), New Zealand (10), Mexico (8) and one Silver award to Urugay," the release reads.
