The first mention of viticulture in the Huși region dates back to 1415. Under the reign of Stephen the Great, Huși became a renowned wine centre, with the quality of its wines far exceeding Moldavia’s borders. In 1474, the ruler donated his vineyards to the Putna Monastery.
In 1891, the Huși School of Viticulture was established. It played a crucial role in developing vine cultivation techniques and training specialists who shaped Romania’s wine industry. In the 1950s and 1960s, the Huși Wine Combine modernised production, becoming a national benchmark in winemaking.
In 2020, Constantin Duluțe acquired the former combine, revitalizing the vineyard and promoting authentic Romanian wines such as Zghihara de Huși and Busuioaca de Bohotin, varieties specific to the region. An investment of over 15 million euros transformed the winery, preserving only the historic building and the cellar with more than 110,000 bottles of vintage wine.
Via Huși has modern technologies for the production of sparkling wines, both by the classical method and by the Charmat method, thus maintaining itself at the forefront of innovation in Romanian winemaking.
