La Sapata Winery, founded in 2009 by two Italian entrepreneurs, is located in Sarica Niculitel, the oldest vineyard in Dobrogea, with a winemaking tradition dating back to the Roman period and Greek colonization. The initial investment, of hundreds of thousands of euros, created a 25-hectare plantation in the vicinity of the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve, and the winemaking complex covers 700 square meters, combining modern technology with local tradition.
The winery stands out for its commitment to organic farming, using traditional methods and environmentally friendly technologies. The sandy soil is worked with horses for minimal intervention, and natural regeneration of the land was encouraged during its period of neglect.
The grape varieties grown include Aligoté, Fetească Regală, Muscat Ottonel, Italian Riesling, Rkatsiteli, Sauvignon Blanc, Băbească Neagră, Blauer, Merlot, and Sangiovese. Annual production is 100,000 liters, and signature wines include Băbească Neagră and blends of Aligoté and Riesling.
La Sapata supports the local community by creating jobs and revitalizing the rural region affected by migration. It is more than just a winery; it is a project with ethical investment principles and social involvement.
