The approximately 500-year history of vine cultivation in the Dealu Mare vineyard determines us day by day to keep the tradition of producing quality wines.
The Dealu Mare vineyard has deep roots in the history of the place. In the 4th century, in this vineyard the Visigothic king Atanaric hid his treasure, known as "Closca cu puii de aur" or "Treasure from Pietroasa". It is assumed that when this treasure was hidden by the Visigoths for fear of the Huns, cattle culture occupied an important place in these lands. The existence of some villages with vineyards is documented starting with the 15th century. Thus, the village of Bucov was the property of the logofatian Stanciu (1492), and part of the village of Calugăreni belonged to the Snagov monastery (1464). Most of the documents attesting the existence of vineyards in this area belong to voivode Radu Stefan (1602-1611). The Dealu Mare vineyard has the highest density of winemaking centers in the country, carrying on the centuries-old tradition of this region.
In 2007 the company S.C. The Dealu Mare Urlati estates restore the former splendor of the area, already entered in history since the year 1700. The investment in technology and replanting reaching approximately 4 million Euros.
The 110 hectares of the company’s heritage, divided between Urlati and Ceptura, of which 35 from replanting, have the advantage of total exposure to the south, which ensures maximum insolation throughout the growing season. Cultivated varieties are: Feteasca Alba, Sauvignon Blanc, Muscat Ottonel, Riesling, Feteasca Neagra, Cabernet Sauvignon. The passion and attention with which the wines were created brought appreciation at numerous domestic and international competitions.
The company’s portfolio was built in the spirit of promoting premium wines. Thus, although there is a delimitation between the products addressed to the Horeca channel and those intended for retail, nothing detracts from the idea of quality. Among the wines addressed to the Horeca channel as well as retail, we list: Incantation, Saac, ZZPELIN, Domeniile Urlati, or Rasarit.
A special product, which connects the tradition of the places with the present and for which the company has invested in promoting it on the market, is Pelinul. By tradition, Pelinul de Urlati is the best-known product of this type in Romania. That is why the care for this tradition to continue has always occupied an important place in the company’s strategy.
