Vrancea, located at the border of three historical provinces – Moldova, Transylvania, and Muntenia – is the largest wine region in Romania, with a millennia-old winemaking history.
Founded in 1949, Beciul Domnesc Company is one of the largest wine producers in Romania.
The company owns and cultivates over 1,500 hectares of vineyards across seven winemaking locations situated in the renowned wine regions of Cotești, Odobești, Panciu, and Huși. The iconic winery, "Beciul Domnesc," a historical monument from the 15th century, houses a collection of over 100,000 bottles of wine, the oldest dating back to 1949. In 1834, Prince Mihail Sturza acquired 200 hectares of vineyards and two stone cellars, including Beciul Domnesc, renovated between 1834 and 1839.
Visits and tastings at Beciul Domnesc must be booked at least one week in advance. The company’s portfolio includes over 100 products, including still wines, sparkling, and spirits.
