The Rosé Wine Session of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, one of the most prestigious and influential wine competitions in the world, will take place from March 28 to 30, 2025, in Constanța, part of the Dobrogea wine region, Romania.
This marks a historic first for Romanian wine, as the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles becomes the first major international wine competition to select Romania as the host country for one of its contests.
Tastings Supported by the Louvain Institute of Statistics
Maintaining the high standards of previous editions, this competition will be organized and the wines served with the same level of rigor. The tastings will be conducted blind, ensuring total anonymity of the samples, with the only identifying detail being the vintage year. The judging will be carried out by mixed panels of five or six jurors. To ensure that the CMB medals remain a relevant and credible marketing tool for both the industry and consumers, the organizers have taken great care in selecting the invited judges.
Additionally, the judges will be given the opportunity to calibrate their evaluations before each tasting session, and the wines will be grouped into homogeneous series. The Concours Mondial de Bruxelles collaborates with the Institute of Statistics of Louvain, Belgium, for calculating results and analyzing the consistency of the judging process.
Artificial Intelligence Evaluates Each Wine’s Performance
The international jury is not only asked to assign scores but also to provide personal tasting notes for each sample. These notes will later be analyzed using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to create a qualitative profile of each participating wine – a world-first at this scale. According to the CMB organizers, the decision to revolutionize the judging process stems from a desire to modernize wine evaluations and enhance the competition’s credibility among both consumers and producers.
The tasting notes will be processed by Winespace, a specialized program designed to understand and interpret professional wine terminology and generate a "sensory and taste profile" to complement the traditional 100-point scoring system. Over the three days of the event, approximately 9,000 tasting notes will be generated, with each wine evaluated by an average of five tasters. A Global Benchmark for Wine Competitions
The Concours Mondial de Bruxelles is an internationally recognized benchmark in wine competitions. Its independence, rigorous standards, and strict tasting procedures provide consumers with confidence when selecting medal-winning wines. The competition follows OIV (International Organisation of Vine and Wine) regulations, ensuring that medals do not exceed 30% of the total number of wines entered.
The judging panels consist of renowned experts, recognized globally for their ability to evaluate wines. These include buyers, distributors, winemakers, sommeliers, journalists, writers, critics, researchers, and industry representatives.
Romania will be represented on the jury by Marina Samoilă, Marinela Ardelean, Otilia Chiriță, Diana Pavelescu, Sergiu Nedelea, Cosmin Popescu, Horia Hasnaș, Liviu Grigorică, Răzvan Macici, Cosmin Tudoran, and Cătălin Păduraru.
As part of the event, the judges will visit several wineries in Dobrogea, where they will taste local wines and regional gastronomy, creating an excellent promotion opportunity for the Dobrogea wine region and the city of Constanța.
Wineries interested in entering the competition can register their samples online on the official website concoursmondial.com. The deadline for wine submissions is March 3, 2025.
Valentin Ceafalău, Organizer: "A First Step in Building a National Brand Through Wine"
Valentin Ceafalău, Event Organizer: "This is the first time that a wine competition of such prestige and scale comes to Romania. For the first time, Romanian wine will have a global platform for promotion. The Concours Mondial de Bruxelles is not just a competition but a globally recognized event that attracts significant media attention.
"The jurors invited to award medals – specialists, communicators, wine journalists, buyers, and importers – will visit Dobrogea wineries, taste Romanian wines, and savor Dobrogean cuisine. By doing so, they will become ambassadors of the region, sharing their experiences about Dobrogea and Romania through their communication channels."
"Romania is a wine-producing country with a rich tradition and significant production, yet it lacks the international recognition it deserves. Although many Romanian wines win international awards, their promotion and positioning on foreign markets remain major challenges. Hosting the CMB Rosé Wines Session could be a first step in building a national wine brand, as wine is one of the few products that inherently carries information about its history, culture, economy, and traditions."
