From Monday to Sunday (August 12-18), Sfantu Gheorghe becomes one of the international capitals of cinema, hosting the 21st edition of the Anonimul Festival, one of the most important—and “far from the red carpet”—film competitions in Europe. A partner of the festival and a warrant of fine taste (with significant ethical and ecological implications) is Domeniul Bogdan, the largest producer of eco, organic, and biodynamic wines in Romania.
In Nature, For Nature
The Anonimul Festival takes place in the small town of Sfantu Gheorghe—specifically in the camping area there—driven by the desire to bring film enthusiasts back to the heart of nature, in a place isolated from everyday life. Just a few dozen kilometers away, in Peștera, in the Murfatlar region, Domeniul Bogdan represents the first major investment in biodynamic agriculture, creating wines with personality, born through methods that focus on care for nature, sustainability, and even enriching the universe of local biodiversity.
Anonimul: Three Competitions, Two Off-Section Segments
As every year, the Anonimul Festival features three competitions—Romanian short films, international short films, and feature films (regardless of the country of origin). During the marathon, participants will be able to watch 14 Romanian short films, 12 international short films, and 5 feature films (in the three competitions), as well as 6 off-section films presented at Cannes, alongside 9 films from the Romanian Off Section. And because it’s about the Danube Delta, one of the Romanian films presented is "Ivan – The Man with Roots in the Water," a story that “reconstructs with never-before seen archive images the transformation of the 16-year-old boy who left his fishing village into a multiple Olympic champion (…) and his return to his roots, driven by a sense of duty to the people and place that shaped him.”
The festival will open with the film *The Seed of a Sacred Fig,* directed by Mohammad Rasoulof, and will close with *Memory,* directed by Michel Franco. In the Cannes Off Section selection, the films *Marcello Mio* (directed by Christophe Honoré), *Caught by the Tides* (directed by Jia Zhang-Ke), *Three Kilometers to the End of the World* (directed by Emanuel Pârvu), *OK Canada* (directed by Paul Schrader), and the much-anticipated *The Girl with the Needle* (directed by Magnus van Horn) and *Three Lives Only One Death* (directed by Raoul Ruiz) will be screened.
