Atypical tasting – outdated wine in space

In March 2021, twelve of the most titled wine tasters in the world gathered at the University of Bordeaux, for the blind tasting of a bottle of Chateau Petrus launched into space and returned after a year of ageing in which it orbited the Earth, crossing a total of almost 300,000,000 km.

The purpose of the tasting was to compare it with wines that spent the same ageing period in a classic cellar.

The producers, who did not have “astronomical” budgets, are experimenting with the ageing of wine under water, at great depths, to determine whether the pressure changes and the constant movement of the ocean alter the flavors and bouquet of the wine.
