Romania wins three great gold and 17 gold medals CMB 2024

Romanian wines won a total of 39 medals at the 31st edition of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, held this year in Mexico. The highest awards were three Grand Gold Medals, for Feteasca Neagra Patima dupa Matei 2020, Corcova Reserve Pinot Noir 2021, and Issa Chardonnay Barrique 2022, with the latter also receiving the title of Contest Revelation – International White Wine Revelation. In addition to these, there were a total of 17 Gold Medals and 19 Silver Medals.

At the XXXI edition of CMB, over 7,500 white and red wines from 42 countries were evaluated. The jury consisted of 350 experts from 45 countries, organized into panels of 5 or 6 judges. Notable results among the Romanian wineries included:

  • Domeniile Averesti – two Gold Medals for Cabernet Sauvignon Diamond Collection 2019 and Feteasca Neagra de Averesti Diamond Collection 2022,
  • SERVE – 1 Gold for Cuvee Charlotte 2018, 1 Silver for Cuvee Guillaume 2020
  • Vintruvian Group – 2 Gold Medals for Epiphanie 2020 and Prince Matei 2017, and one Silver for Caii de la Letea Aligote Princeps 2021
  • Jidvei – Gold for Iluziv Sauvignon Blanc / Riesling/ Muscat Ottonel 2023, Silver for Owners Choice Ana Sauvignon Blanc 2023
  • Domeniile Franco-Romane – Gold for Merlot 2021
  • Crama Girboiu – two Gold Medals for Feteasca Neagra Barrique 2017 and Merlot Barrique 2016, one Silver for Bacanta Special Edition Sarba White 2023
  • Cramele Recas – two Gold medalis for Sauvignon Blanc Sole 2023 and Calusari Reserva Chardonnay / Feteasca Regala 2022
  • Issa – in addition to the Grand Gold Medal, one Gold Medal for Nidus Feteasca Neagra 2019 and one Silver for Issa Chardonnay 2023.

At the same time as CMB 2024, the Decanter World Wine Awards announced the results of its annual competition. Romania’s performance is good in terms of numbers, but as usual in recent years, Decanter’s tastes are a bit unique… In total, Romania won 3 Gold Medals, 27 Silver Medals, and no less than 100 Bronze Medals. The top winners, with wines rated at 95 Decanter points, were

  • Avincis – Cuvee Valerius Alutus Primus 2020,
  • Strunga Winery – Feteasca neagra Barrique 2022
  • and Cotnari Busuioaca de Bohotin 2023.
