The first edition of a major international wine competition hosted by Romania – the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles edition for rosé wines – is already setting new records: the highest number of entries to date, with 1,250 samples, and the largest presence of Romanian wines, with 144 entries, representing over 10% of the total submissions.

Details can be found in the press release sent by the organizers, below:

Record Number of Romanian Wines at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles Rosé Session – Constanța

The first tasting session of 2025 for the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, one of the most important and influential wine competitions in the world, will begin next week in Constanța. For three days, nearly 70 international tasters will blind taste and evaluate rosé wines from around the world and will have the chance to discover the incredible diversity of the Dobrogea region.
In addition to the wine competition, which will take place between March 28th and 30th, the event will include multiple tastings, visits to Dobrogea wineries, themed dinners, conferences, and masterclasses – all aimed at promoting Romanian wines and gastronomy among foreign guests.

This is a first in Romanian wine history, with the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles becoming the first major international wine competition to choose Romania as the destination for one of its competitions.

144 Romanian Wines!

The nearly 70 tasters — winemakers, journalists, buyers, sommeliers, and wine educators from 19 countries, including Romania — will evaluate 1,250 rosé wines from 34 countries, setting a record for the CMB Rosé Session. Another record is the participation of Romanian wines, with local producers registering 144 entries, compared to last year’s 44.

Romania at the top of participating countries

The top five countries by number of entries are France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, and Romania. The list of participating countries also includes more exotic destinations such as India, Canada, Colombia, Peru, Russia, Mexico, Brazil, and Turkey.

From Pinot to Busuioacă

From Romania, the majority of rosé wine entries come from the Dobrogea region (35.7%), followed by Moldova (16.3%), Muntenia, and Transylvania, each contributing 10%. A large share of the Romanian rosé wines featured at the CMB Rosé Session are made from Pinot Noir (28.6%), followed by Cabernet Sauvignon (20.4%), and both Fetească Neagră and Merlot (14.3% each). Wines made from Busuioacă de Bohotin, Blaufränkisch, Negru de Drăgășani, and Novac will also be evaluated.

The results will be announced on April 7, 2025, on the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles website.

About Concours Mondial de Bruxelles

The Concours Mondial de Bruxelles is a global reference point in the field of wine competitions.
