About wines, with freshness
Crama Răteşti goes back to 2008, when the owner, Mihai Schita, planted the first vines in Răteşti, in the Satu Mare district. He started his business with 20 hectares and, by 2010, he had extended to 205, on a radius of 30 kilometres (Răteşti, Gereuşa and Hodişa). In total, the winery has nine varieties: Riesling Italian, Sauvignon Blanc, Fetească Regală, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Fetească Neagră.
The Răteşti region has an old vineyard tradition, almost forgotten today. The plantations have been abandoned and destroyed, and only the caves on the village’s outskirts still testify of an ancient tradition. Until 1989, only white grapes were planted in this region. Still, the Răteşti people gave a fair amount of space to the red varieties as well, considering that the changes of climate have put the North of the country on the map of valuable red wines.
The harvest of 2012 offered the first wines in the Ardud cellar. 41,800 liters of white wine were vinified in stainless steel tanks, while 25,300 liters of red wine were matured in oak barriques. As the vine grew year by year, the wine production followed its path.
The Răteşti wines’ main feature is the freshness, due to the young plantations and the natural acidity of the soil. The white wines are crisp and mineral, while the red ones are fruity and balanced.
