German perfection on Drăgășani hills
In 2012, the well-known German oenologist Oliver Bauer, together
with his wife, Raluca, established Crama Bauer, located in Drăgăşani vineyard – he was already famous on the Romanian market through the wines he produced at Prince Ştirbey since 2003. This small family business owns an area of 5 hectares of vines, as well as a winery equipped with modern technology that Oliver Bauer conceived so as to allow the vinification of small quantities of grapes, harvested from old, well cared-of parcels. The wines are obtained from local varieties (Crâmpoşie Selecţionată, Fetească Neagră, Negru de Drăgăşani) and international ones, some of them less known by Romanian wine lovers (Petit Verdot). The prestigious Bauer-branded portfolio contains Sauvignonasse, Sauvignon Blanc, Crâmpoşie Selecţionată, Negru de Drăgăşani Rosé, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Fetească Neagră varietals. The Orange wine, obtained from the grapes of a 40-years old Sauvignonasse vine, perfectly illustrates the values in which the Bauer husbands believe: character and authenticity. The reduction of technical influence towards a reasonable minimum can be found in the design of every Bauer wine, illustrating the oenologist’s philosophy, that of a natural creativity.
Bauer husbands’ winery is located on the hills close to Drăgășani city and offers delightful scenery overlooking the Olt, allowing the owners to organise oenotourism activities in any season.
