As Wines of Romania approaches its third anniversary since launching online, we are thrilled to announce a new Gold Partnership with a true iconic company in the wine industry: Amorim, the world’s leading cork producer and one of the most important suppliers for Romanian winemakers.
A glimpse into Amorim Cork’s story was already shared last year in Marinela Ardelean’s report following her visit to some of the company’s factories. Amorim Cork produces half of the world’s cork stoppers annually, operating 23 factories, 43 distribution companies, and 8,000 hectares of forests, supplying over 22,000 clients worldwide.
Beyond its impressive numbers, Amorim is, at its core, a family business. Founded in 1870, it has now reached its fourth generation, led by António Riosde Amorim, the company’s current chairman.
In most large companies, discussions revolve around market share, achievements and the visionary people who built it. Not so much at Amorim where sustainability, circular economy, renewable energy, forest development, irrigation, recycling, and zero-waste policies take center stage.
In a few words, it’s about the future, community, inherited culture, and the world we leave for future generations. Massive investments are being made in forest plantations and research & development – a field that has already driven remarkable improvements in cork quality over the past 30 years.
Our collaboration with Amorim will bring exclusive insights straight from the source about this essential, yet often overlooked element of wine: the cork stopper. The cork is a tradition, is part of a ritual, but it may also tell a story about a wine’s evolution.
Stay tuned for podcasts featuring the people behind Amorim, including company chairman António Rios de Amorim, as well as expert-led articles on cork technology, sustainability, and the latest innovations in wine and spirits closures.
And most importantly, stories about the future.
