MaxiMarc

Knowledge, passion, terroir

One of the most promising young wineries in Western Romania is MaxiMarc, an investment of a local family, where an Italian oenologist discovered local varieties’ potential.
Located on the hills of Maderat (Arad county), the vineyard is found in one of the oldest wine regions in Romania, known in the Habsburg period as a major wine supplier for the court in Vienna.
The winery philosophy is “to create wines with personality, which speak of the terroir, respecting the history and the environment in which it is located”.
The winery entrance is guarded by a 175-year-old Sequoia tree, with impressive dimensions – 35 meters high and 5 meters in diameter. If the tree, planted by Baron Jozsef Dietrich in 1845, is a strong symbol of the connection to the past, the name of the winery is quite the opposite: a promise to the future of this family business – Maximilian and Marc are the youngest family members and those responsible for carrying the winery into the next decades.
Today, MaxiMarc cultivates 80 hectares, half of which are planted with local varieties. Italian oenologist Emanuele Reolon was happy to discover the potential of local varieties, and especially that of Mustoasa de Măderat, which he studied closely and vinified it in every possible way, trying to explore as much as possible the true potential of this insufficiently known grape.
