A vine-grower’s fate
Located on Dealul Viilor, near Drăgăşani, Domeniul Drăgaşi is the successor of Girueta winery’s history, founded in 2010, by Sorin Petrescu. The domain changed name once its owner changed.
Magdalena Enescu gave up a law firm for a private office, only to become the owner of the vineyard. The choice was not, however, coincidental: her grandparents had hundreds of hectares in Dealu Mare, a wealth which, has never ever been claimed. In 2015, after the retreat of the original owner of the winery, Sorin Petrescu, Alina Podiuc, who now holds the position of Executive Director, joined Magdalena Enescu, her cousin, in the position of co-owner.
In 2012, four grape varieties were planted: Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blanc, on the seven and a half hectares of loam-clayey soil. The plantation is new – in 2017 and 2018 another 2.5 hectares were also planted. The winemaker is one of the owners, Magdalena Enescu – she works with Fiorenzo Rista as a consultant. The annual production is of 20.000 litres of wine, amounting to a total capacity of 70.000 litres. The first brand of the winery was called „Murmurul Oltului” (The Hum of Olt River). The first wine, from 2014, was not produced of grapes from the domain. Domeniul Drăgaşi Guest House, designed as a traditional house, has five double rooms and a restaurant. Each room is named after a variety of wine. In the tasting room guests are offered six wines from „Pelerin” (Pilgrim) range: two white – Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris – three red – Cabernet Franc, Merlot and a Cabernet Franc-Merlot blend – and a Rosé.
