A Romanian-French tradition
In the Sâmbureşti area, the wine has been produced for at least four centuries, the cupbearer role being mentioned in documents since 1638.
Around 1800, the domain is known as being owned by the famous Brătianu family. Boyar Vintilă Brătianu, among the most influential politicians of the time, has replaced the estate vines and planted noble French varieties instead, following the advice of a guest, the famous French oenologist August Joseph Ville. The decision will be repaid, after just a few years, in 1926, with the gold medal at the Universal Exhibition in Paris.
In 2005, Jean Valvis, the architect of the brands Dorna and LaDorna, takes ownership of the Sâmbureşti vineyard, with the declared intention to revive the prestige of the domain’s wines.
SC Viti-Pomicola Sâmburești SA, privatized in 2000, owns about 500 hectares of vines, situated in the Câmpu Mare and Sâmbureşti vineyards, a wine region located on plateaus and slopes of the valleys tributary to the Olt River.
The wine collection includes the ranges Domeniile Sâmburești – premium wines –, Sâmburel de Olt, positioned in the medium/high category, and Château Valvis, wines with an exclusive character, intended especially for wine shops and HoReCa sector. The company wines were awarded internationally: the Cabernet Sauvignon 2009 from the collection Château Valvis won the gold medal in the category “red wines” at the International Wine Fair in Beijing, China – 2012 and the 2010 Merlot from the same collection received the silver medal.
