Recaş vineyards were first mentioned in a notarial document on November 11th, 1447. Then, Mihail de Ciorna, Banul Severinului (Severin city’s Official), bought the vineyards from Ioan and Ecaterina Magyar for 32 Hungarian gold florins. Since then, the vineyards have been owned by Hungarians, Austrians, Romanians, Serbians, Swabians, and Croatians. Thanks to the ability they engaged in nursing the vineyards, Recaş wine has always been a strong currency in trade between East and West.
Cramele Recaș, the company established in 1991, administers an area of approximately 1.200 hectares of vines in Recaș (Timiș County) and Miniș (Arad). The Cramele Recaș Group comprises several companies, including Cramele Recaș SA (owns the winery), Cramele Recaș Prod (owns the vineyard), and Cramele Recaș Group SRL (in charge of trade and distribution). The investment made in 2015 in the wine process and vineyard was about 4.5 million euros. In the spring of 2016, the hall’s enlargement was also completed – for the new line’s bottled wine storage – and the investment of 220.000 euros on purchasing 50 hectares of land in Recaş was also approved.
The main varieties cultivated there are Merlot, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Negru de Drăgășani, Novac, Avalon, Cabernet Dorsa, Zweigelt, Cadarcă, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Fetească Regală, Fetească Albă, Pinot Gris, Viognier, Muscat Ottonel, Furmint, Italian Riesling, Rhein Riesling. Cramele Recaș portfolio includes brands such as Castel Huniade, Cocoșul dintre vii, La Putere, Selene, Sole, Solo Quinta, Cuvée Überland, and the new Muse range.
