Oprișor Winery

A German concept grafted
on Oltenian terroir

The estates of Mehedinți County, on Drîncea Valley, attested from the fourteenth century, got famous in the eighteenth century, during the reign of Constantin Brâncoveanu, for the quality of their wines. Crama Oprişor, the successor of this great name, depicts today a successful model of putting in place a German concept on Oltenian terroir.
Carl Reh started building its wine business on the Mosel Valley, in the devastated, post-Great War Germany. Three generations have succeeded at the wheel of Reh-Kendermann Company, from the beginning, when it was a small company, founded in 1920, until today. Having become a global player in the mid-90s, the German company has made the first step to expand into Eastern Europe, from Romania, through the purchase of a wine cellar built under communist era and the replantation of 250 hectares of vines, at Oprişor. On the hills and slopes making up Golul Drîncei’s wine-growing “amphitheatre”, Chardonnay is grown today, together with Pinot Gris, Rhein Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Tămâioasă Românească, Cabernet Sauvignon, Dornfelder, Fetească Neagră, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Shiraz, Zinfandel.
Crama Oprişor has a fermentation capacity of 1.500.000 liters, a storage capacity of one million liters and 600 barriques destined to the maturation of premium wines. Among the distinguished labels one can find: Caloian, Cupola Sanctis, Cutia Paleologu, Detaliu, Drăgaică Roșie, ISPITA, La Cetate, Măiastru, Nenumita, Passarowitz 1718, Rusalcă Albă, Smerenie and Val Duna.
