Passion and attention to details
It is said that the man sanctifies the place, but sometimes the place is already bestowed with everything it needs. When the man finds such land, he has nothing left to do but take care of it with love, passion, and attention to detail, thinking about the time to come and the next harvest.
Such a place is the one that Alira wines are drawing their vigour from, a land where the Dobrogea sun and the Dunărea Veche make the best alliance for cultivating vines. Here, the wine tradition is older than the Romanian language.
The vineyard rekindles happened a decade ago when the famous French oenologist, Marc Dworkin, felt the strength and complexity that the local grapes could give to the wine. Together with the businessman and wine passionate, Dr. Karl Heinz Hauptmann, Marc decided to give a new image to Romanian wine, and Aliman lands, barren at the time. The goal: to make wines inspired by the Bordeaux philosophy but with high respect for the local imprint.
The winery is a “boutique”-style (a small winery, with limited edition wines) and covers 80 hectares. There are three varieties planted on this land: Merlot (47 ha), Cabernet Sauvignon (23 ha), and Fetească Neagră (10 ha). Alira aims to create special wines, combining modern technology with traditional methods, such as manual harvesting and careful selection of grapes. Currently, the Dobrogean winery produces four wine ranges: Alira, Alira Tribun, Alira Grand Vin, and Lauri.
