Clos des Colombes

A jewel of oenotourism

Clos des Colombes is a small vineyard paradise near the Romanian coastline, established in 2002. The name of this company shifts the clos concept – an enclosed vineyard surrounded by a stone fence – to the Dobroudjan landscape.
The fabulous cellar, with its limestone and iron layers, hosts its dusty bottles buried next to sublime-smelling barrels. An efficient propane-cannon-powered scarecrow drives starlings and intruders away in a unique landscape that combines Olimp resort’s grey blocks with vague growth of forest, churches and minarets, visible through the vine’s atheist tendrils.
The tiny 4-hectare area produces a wide range of wines – either Latin, vaguely bucolic, or northern fairy-tale names can be found on their labels. Some of the varieties cultivated here are Fetească Albă, Italian Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, Pinot Gris, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Fetească Neagră, Pinot Noir and Syrah. The wines are traded under many ranges and labels: Inimă de Pivoine, Petit Clos, Terra Alba, Terra Rossa, monocépages like Clos des Colombes Sauvignon, Viognier, Syrah, cuvées like Prințesa și Bobul de Măzăre, Omuleț de Lemn, Renaissance.
