Drăgaică Roşie
2011

Oprișor Winery

A love song that leaves no one untouched. Sânzienele (or Drăgaica in southern Romania) is a religious festival in the Orthodox calendar, dedicated to love and fertility, the ripening of harvest and the protection of crops. This holiday takes place every year, on June 24. For Drăgaica Roșie, it feels as if the wine was made first and then the label. Sânzienele are beautiful, young, cheerful and romantic fairies, just as this wine feels. Intense ruby red colour, at the first tasting, a dizzying dance of flavours opening with plums, currants, cherries, blackberries, raspberries, spices, then showing black pepper, chocolate, tobacco, lightly toasted wood and balsamic notes. The taste is complex, full-bodied, dense and very elegantly balanced between freshness and velvety and delicate tannins. The finish seems to never end. To really appreciate the journey of this wine, we need large and generous glasses. The only “problem” of this wine: a fantastic “drinkability”!
