Moșia Galicea Mare

In 1912, George Valentin Bibescu began the construction of the wine cellar on the Galicea Mare Estate. In the same time, he planted 15 hectares of noble vine. After three years, the winery was completed, and the first wine was made there in 1916. Since then, the Galicea Mare Estate has produced wine every year. The estate was sold to a community, then occupied by the communists. It was brought back to life exactly one hundred years after the first winemaking, in 2016.
The wine cellar is probably the most technological wine cellar in Romania, while maintaining traditional wine production methods without the addition of yeast and other dozens of additives. The vine is grown almost naturally (biologically). However, for some reasons, some plots could not be biologically groomed, but they plan to make Galicea Mare a 100% biological vineyard in the coming years. In 2018 there were 50 hectares of vineyards – 25 ha of white grapes (Tămâioasă Românească, Pinot Gris, Fetească Albă) and 25 ha of red grapes (Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Fetească Neagră).
