The Tuscan heritage of the Buzeşti brothers
Domeniile Mennini, located in Drăgăşani vineyard, specifically in Colibaşi, Strejeşti village, Olt County, include 300 compact hectares, of which 70 hectares of vines. The place is full of history: Strejeşti village, part of Podgoria Drăgăşani, is related to the names of the Buzeşti brothers, Preda and Stroe, owners of the town. The whole vineyard, with a history of over 500 years, has a tradition of boyars – Governor Buzescu, Governor Ghica, Princes Bibescu and Ştirbey, later the Teodorini and Darvari families are known among the vines’ owners.
The current owner, Paolo Mennini, an Italian, steel industry businessman, fell in love with these places, reminiscent of Tuscany, and since 2006 he invested money and passion in the vines and winery situated right on the former Drăgăşani Winemaking Research and Development Station.
The replanting was achieved with expert advice from Italy, and currently, on those 70 hectares, there are plantations of Chardonnay, Muscat Ottonel, Sauvignon Blanc, Tămâioasă Românească, Burgund Mare, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Negru de Drăgăşani and Pinot Noir. The winery, built in 2012, has a capacity of over one million litres and is equipped with modern technology necessary to produce top quality wines. Besides the already known ranges, Tvdor, Domeniile Mennini, Jambru, there are two new-entries on the market, the fizzy Cubule and Stelle di Mare ranges.
