Vine, wine and the Gulag
The tiny, but famed Casa vinicolă Luca enjoys a long tradition. For a long time, the family harvested the vine in the Codru region, center of Moldova. Through great grandfather Petru, they have tried to safeguard the vine customs even in the time of the Soviet regime, when an important part of the family was deported to Siberia. Petru escaped deportation precisely because he was harvesting the vine that particular night. The family’s properties were expropriated, the house occupied, yet Petru managed to bring his family back, living in the barn and continuing to farm the vine. The tradition was taken over by grandpa Grigore, then by father Luca and his sons, Vasile and Ion. In the nineties, Luca and Vasile worked for the famous Cricova winery.
Ion, instead, decided to reknot tradition and rebuild the family business. Thus, in 2014, Casa vinicolă Luca, successfully entered the market with the Carpe Diem premium range: the 2013 Fetească Neagră was awarded gold at the Berliner Wine Trophy 2015 as well as Asia Wine Trophy in 2015, while Fetească Regală was awarded similarly.
From their portfolio, worthy of mention are Cabernet Sauvignon, Fetească Albă and Cuvée 19/11 (a unique blend of Fetească Neagră, Pinot Noir, Rară Neagră and Saperavi), a wine celebrating the family in its own way: 19/11 (2014) is the birth date of the youngest members of the family: Ilinca and Ionuț.
A Carpe Diem wine shop&bar is available to the Chişinău wine lovers, where tastings, open and private ceremonies take place.
