Pinot Gris
2013

Liliac

In French (gris) can also mean “pink” or “dark pink”, as the grape is neither red nor white. This variety has attracted the attention of the wine-growing world because of the tormented history of the various names attributed to it. Called Grauer Tokayer before 1870, over the centuries, it was called Tokay, Tokay d’Alsace, Tokay Pinot Gris, and finally, from April 1, 2007, Pinot Gris. This particular Pinot Gris was a huge surprise for me – so complete, so rich and generous, both to the nose and to the palate. It is inviting right from the color, a bright straw-yellow color, with soft green reflections. It shows intense and lively floral notes, with hints of ripe fruit (peach, melon) and spices. Full body, persistent and elegant. A fresh aftertaste, balanced between softness and pleasant acidity. I recognized in this wine a touch of perfection and, why not?, class. Pity that only 2,300 bottles were produced!
