KVINT

The divins, wines and beverages of Tiraspol

Established in 1897, the Kvint Wine and Cognac Factory in Tiraspol is one of the oldest alcoholic beverage companies in the region. The abbreviation KVINT means Divins (Brandies), Wines and Beverages of Tiraspol (Коньяки, Вина И Напитки Тирасполя). The distillery set up during the Tsarist period now produces some of the most qualitative and iconic beverages in the Republic of Moldova. Being part of the Sheriff holding, KVINT produces annually about 20 million bottles of alcoholic beverages, including wines, divins, vodka, gin and calvados.
The company owns about 2.000 hectares of vineyards located near the Dniester river, where over twenty varieties of grapes are found. Among these: Alb de Oniţcani, Alb de Suruceni, Aligoté, Bianca, Chardonnay, Irsai Olivér, Pinot Grigio, Riesling, Riton, Sauvignon Blanc, Solaris, Traminer, Ugni Blanc, Viognier, Viorica, Jemciug Zala, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Negru de Ialoveni and Pinot Noir.
The KVINT factory is known mainly for its divins (brandies), which it produces since 1938 true to classical French methods. Aging is done in oak wood barrels for 3 to 60 years. These liquors have been named “divins”: the term derives from the words “distilled wine” and in Moldova is used to designate the local brandy. A few KVINT divins became space beverages thanks to the Russian astronauts, who remembered to take them aboard their missions on Earth’s orbit.
