The HB Wine Estates and Winery are located in the Minis Vineyard in Arad County, overlooking the ruins of Siria Fortress. The vineyard, one of the oldest in Romania, is situated on the western hills of the Zărand Mountains, between the Mures and Crisul Alb rivers.
Why “Rupes Nobilis”? – Minis is among the oldest wine regions in Romania, attested for over eight centuries, producing terroir wines par excellence. The vines of the HB Wine estate produce expressive, intensely colored terroir wines with exceptional minerality extracted from the noble rock layer (Rupes Nobilis).
The story of the winery began in 2008 when six friends asked Mr. Professor Dorin Popa, Vice President of ADAR, to “teach” them how to drink wine. In 2022, a 3.5-hectare acquisition of 47-year-old vineyards took place, with the plot located on the top of a hill in Covasint, with southern exposure, a story-like location with a stunning panorama. The team was joined by one of the best viticulturists from the vineyard, followed by an investment in modern equipment for vine cultivation, which, supported by the professionalism of Mihai Iusco, made the 47-year-old plantation look like one of the most beautiful plantations in the area.
Before long, an exceptional oenologist, Clara Kardos, accepted to be the winery’s consultant and take care of the vinification.
The construction and equipping of the boutique winery with state-of-the-art technology began in June 2023, and by September 2023, the first rosé wine had already been produced, followed immediately by the red wines. Investments continued with a 300 m² building housing the laboratory and a tasting room, as well as four guest rooms.
The results followed immediately: after the first year of winemaking, the winery already had wines awarded silver and gold medals at national and international competitions, despite being still so young.
The current intention is to use structural funds to build a new winery with a unique design, a large tasting room, and accommodation spaces for enotourism. To this end, a 5,000 m² plot of land was acquired near the vineyard, on the county road. Additionally, there are plans to acquire approximately 10 more hectares of land in the Minis area for planting varieties such as Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Feteasca Neagra.
