A wine outpost beyond parallel 47
Crama Fort Silvan is located in Camăr, Sălaj County – an area with tradition in viticulture and winemaking. The owner, Szoboszlai Attila, has switched from being a physics professor to being the mayor of Camăr. Afterwards, since 2006, he focused on agriculture as he made the biggest plantation of decorative pine trees in Romania.
In 2012, the teacher-mayor started expanding the business in agriculture, replanting with noble vines about 27.5 hectares of land. Six more hectares were replanted after 2015, the area of the vine of Fort Silvan reaching a total of 33.5 hectares, all located in an area with a cool climate, beyond parallel 47, which is not necessarily a disadvantage, because the grapes ripen more slowly.
The vine is cultivated at the edge of the forest, where the new winery was built in 2015, made of stone, with unique architecture, reminiscent of a medieval fortress. The winery, with 25 m sides, is U-shaped and provides a tasting room on the rooftop.
The varieties planted here are: Fetească Regală, Muscat Ottonel, Italian Riesling, Traminer, Cadarcă, Fetească Neagră, Merlot, and Pinot Noir. Being a young winery, the first harvest under the Fort Silvan brand was obtained in 2015, by the oenologist László Veiszenbacher. For enotourists, the owner built a hostel with 10 rooms, two suites, a conference hall, a Ballroom, and a wine shop.
