An Italian-style organic vineyard in Banat
Petro Vaselo winery is located in the village called Petrovaselo, near Timişoara. The company was founded in 2002 by the Italian Dal Tio family, who owns 172 hectares in the area.
The labour on the 42 hectares vineyard is exclusively manual. The land is clayey, with small limestone portions. The proper soil is achieved by harrowing and fertilization with green manure – no herbicides are used on the process. In 2013, Petro Vaselo became a certified organic vineyard. The grapes reach the subterranean cellar through the gravitational method so as to be ready for the next two manual selections. Any mechanization has been minimized. The stum and the wine are afterwards treated in the absence of oxygen. Fermentation may take place in stainless steel or French oak containers of small size, which hold limited quantities of grapes that generally come from the same piece of land of a certain type of soil, for the wine to be able to express the purest definition of the terroir.
In 2013, the company expanded its line of sparkling wines by adding Bendis Zenith and Bendis Nadir to the list and launched PV Gran Cru. The second fermentation, specific to sparkling wines, is made in Treviso, an Italian province famous for the exceptional sparkling method applied. Petro Vaselo’s entry-level wines are Bendis Rosé, Alb de Petro Vaselo, Roșu de Petro Vaselo, while the middle-high level ones are Otarniţa, Ovaș, and Maletine. Melgis is our top-level wine. And the high-end level wines are Kotys, a traditional-method sparkling wine, and PV Gran Cru.
